When thinking of the title of this post, I wondered which word to choose,
"balmy" or "barmy".
I chose "balmy" from the atmosphere you'd feel from the following photos.
The weather has been barmy with sporadic balmy days;
top-summer-like September, summer-like early October, sudden November-like days,
with occasional breif wind storms.
Hibiscuses were lingering long.
The pink bokeh back of the hibiscus is Crape Myrtle blossoms.
百日紅 (百日 one-hundred days 紅 crimson) Sarusuberi, Crape Myrtle,
bloom about 100 days summer to autumn on the whitish beige barks.
彼岸花 (彼岸 Equinox 花 flower) Higanbana, Lycoris radiata, Cluster Amaryllis,
is called so as it blooms around the autumn Equinox.
They were blooming in the sultry air late-September to October.
Sunshine is comfortable when air is crisp.
萩 Hagi, Japanese Bush Clower, is one of the wild seven grasses of autumn in Japan.
(There is 秋 autumn in that Chinese Character.)
Such a profusion of purplish pink on the powerful shrubs!
The bloom of cosmoses were much delayed due to the hot weather.
秋桜 (秋 autumn 桜 Sakura) for its shades of pink, is one of the representative flowers of autumn.
Autumn really makes up for the summer heat, especially when it was
the record hottest and longest with the oppressive humidity.
Sports Day is back at schools and kindergartens, though on a smaller scale
compared to the pre-covid times.
I could look at M's performance, a marching band and a relay, in person
for the first time since her entrance to the kindergarten.
...Kyoto, you have so many lovely flowers, here we have any a few. Our granddaughter is in a marching band, over the weekend she went to Maryland for a competition. Her band came in first. Enjoy your week.
ReplyDeleteUnderstood you ... but Balsam is a very good word, I believe. There are many other interestings things here to see, to read. I enjoyed your post.
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing and being part at
MosaicMonday.
Have a wonderful week.
Greetings by Heidrun
😍😍I enjoy looking at your beautiful flowers. I paid much attention to the wild flowers growing everywhere in Japan during my many trips, from Sapporo all the way down to Fukuoka in Kyushu Island. Most folks are nature lovers and took pains to plant trees & flowers. Kudos.
ReplyDeleteI am learning the word Balsam from EricaSta's comment above. It's an eye opener for me 😁😁
I look forward to the day I could recover and visit Japan again. I hope to visit Shikoku and its 88 temples!! That's the only island I have not visited and I heard they have wild and untouched forests everywhere with minimal developments. 🙏🙏
I hope your grand child enjoyed the Sports Day. Schooling is always fun.
Very beautiful!
ReplyDeleteThere is an appealing softness to some of these scenes, stardust. The luxury of going to events and being around people has been somewhat under-appreciated now that we have some solutions to Covid. In early days, we were awakened to how precious it is to be with others. :)
ReplyDeleteHello,
ReplyDeleteA lovely day and so many pretty Autumn blooms. I love the pink cosmos and the hibiscus. But, they are all beautiful flowers and photos. It is fun to watch your grandchildren doing their sports activities. Take care, have a great week!
So beautiful flowers and picture Yoko !
ReplyDeleteLovely mosaic with the children too !
Rain and wind are coming...
Have a nice week !
Anna
The young children look very cute in the sports day outfits.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous flowers. Are these blooming still or was this earlier in the season? The children look cute. I'm glad you got to watch them.
ReplyDeleteI captured these flowers in early October; some were going, others were coming. Now Roses, Cosmoses are at their best.
DeleteThe flowers are amazing, the cosmos looks so perfect! It's fun watching the grandchildren during their sports activities.
ReplyDeleteI love your conversation at the beginning of this post 'balmy' or 'barmy', but how exquisite that pink rose is - a little bit of perfection captured just before Autumns arrival.
ReplyDeleteFlowers are in short supply here now, but there is a profusion of berries which 'old wives tales' tell us means a hard winter to come.
What kind of autumn is there to talk about with that amount of blossoms??? Your seasons, Yoko, are a permanent mystery for me, especially in comparison with ours - radically different. Special thanks for M's Sporty Day. Seeing her and others' little faces makes you smile radiantly.
ReplyDeleteKeep safe, dear friend.
Beautiful flowers, I enjoyed your photographs and mosaics.
ReplyDeleteThe children look good at their sports day.
All the best Jan
暑い暑いと言いながらも、ようやく秋がやってきました。
ReplyDelete言葉を丁寧に使う洋子さん。流石だと思いました。小規模な運動会になっても無事に開かれて
良かったですね。
Las flores me enamoraron. Te mando un beso.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful photos, Stardust.
ReplyDeleteI especially love the pink cosmos and the hibiscus.
Yoko, the fall flowers you featured are gifts of pink! The bush clover is so delicate. I sowed Cosmos seeds last fall and didn't get one bloom - I was disappointed. The children look so happy performing for their families.
