A walk along the river in the central Kyoto

The Takano River which originates in the mountains of Ohara Yase flows north to south
through the eastern part of the Sakyo Ward, Kyoto City.

On a cloudy, sultry day during the rains last week, I stepped down to the walkway
alongside the river close to the Demachiyanagi Station.

The pathway is wonderful for walking, jogging and cycling.
Many wild flowers are blooming on the riverbanks.

Water is shallow, clean and clear.

The view and the sound of water made me feel cooler.

With different shutter speed, I hope you hear the sound of gushing water.

When you are with your camera, you pay more attention to the roadside/riverside flowers.

Red clovers

The Takano River (on your right) joins the Kamo River (left) to become
another Kamo River at the Kamogawa Delta.
The same sound but different rivers written in different Chinese Characters; 加茂川and 鴨川.

Though stepping stones are placed, the rivers are shallow for people to walk across
if you don't mind get wet.

The Kamo (upper) and the Takano (lower)

The Kamo River (鴨川) flows down through the central part of the city.
Do you spot birds and turtles in the photo below?

There are turtles and waterfowls like ducks and egrets at the Kamo River.
(鴨/Kamo means Duck.)

In summer, the riverbank of the Kamogawa is lined with open-air restaurants traditionally.

  2. Interesting post, stardust! Two rivers that are mirror images, clear, shallow and with stepping stones to jump across … this would be a wonderful path to walk. And they have similar names but spelled differently like in English … peek and peak sound and almost look the same but are different things.

  4. I have always loved Kyoto and Nara very much. Your beautiful photos have brought great memories where I spent lengthy time exploring the rivers around Kyoto. Your detailed explanation is very much appreciated.

I remember dining and clubbing along the river banks with scenic views at the downtown. Next trip I should explore the Kamogawa Delta. Thank you.

  6. I always love finding a little bit of countryside in an urban area and riverside walks are the best kind of gentle exercise. I agree that if we're taking photos we often notice details which we might otherwise pass by.

  15. Me ha encantado el paseo Yoko. Es un gusto caminar cerca del agua. Relaja mucho. Preciosas todas las fotos.
Por aquí hacemos la ruta de las fábricas, casi todas cerradas ya, el Río Cuerpo de Hombre pasa por ellas.
    Buen lunes.
    Un abrazo.
