Lapis lazuli cosmic fantasy in Nara Park

Happiness Corridor Nara-Rurie is held about one week running up to Valentine’s Day
at some popular sightseeing places throughout Nara Park.
It can be a good opportunity to go out during the coldest period of the year.

I went to Winter Tanabata Road at the Nara kasugano International Forum Iraka.
Ruri-colored lights are laid across its spacious garden.
Visitors walk through the twinkling innumerable stars of the Milky Way on the ground.

"Ruri" is a lapis lazuli stone adored and valued by the ancient Nara people.

In Nara Park, visitors meet deer of course.

Corridor of Light connects front and back gardens.

White Ume (Prunus Mume) were already blooming dignified in the shivering cold.
Spring is getting closer.

To commemorate the 10th anniversary of Nara Rurie, Sky Lantern took place.
Thousands of square lanterns made of Japanese paper, with a LED light and a helium balloon,
floated in the air of Kasugano Field.
Lanterns were held by people with strings.

Other sites of Nara Rurie are Nara National Museum, Todai-ji Temple,
and Kasuga Grand Shrine.
My old post about Nara Rurie 2016 includes Yume-kaze Square and Todai-ji Temple;
here.

Wish you all love and happiness!

  1. Your photos capture this remarkable display beautifully, though I think I prefer to see real stars and real deer. I didn't realise that St Valentine's influence had reached Japan!

  3. What a dazzling sight to behold … up, down and all around. It’s a perfect way to cheer up a chilly landscape beyond Christmas, from the heart shape on the ground to the floating sky lanterns that transform the dark into a beautiful dream!

  4. This is a most beautiful way to encourage people to go out, no matter what the weather, and I can imagine the effect of lights over the beautiful acres of Nara Park. A couple of years ago there was a festival of lights in London - I don't know if it was ever repeated. It was most beautiful but too crowded to be completely enjoyable

  7. Magical! Your night photos are wonderful, Yoko. I have trouble shooting at night especially if I need a slow shutter speed. What a wonderful light show. I can't believe the Ume are already blooming. Soon you'll have spring flowers in Nara. I continue to photograph snow scenes...

  8. As I look at these photos, I can only imagine the hours it took to set up these displays. A special gift to all those able to take in the beauty of the lights and the gardens. I would love to see this type of lantern in our community - the nights are so dark here, I think it would be very effective. Thanks for sharing this unique event with all the readers at Mosaic Monday!

  15. This is an enchanted sight indeed. I've never seen anything as lovely as this before. And I would love to be able to see this with my own eyes! Thank you for posting these delightful photographs. And the Ume flowers..... so surprising, and so early in the year. No spring flowers yet for a long time here in frozen Canada!

  16. It is really cosmic! It looks as if lights sparkle from under the earth. No idea how it's done but the effect is stunning. How do live deer react to that abundance of light? Do they hide or are they isolated during this light show?
Have a nice warm week, Yoko.

  21. Wooow, Yoko! "Lapis lazuli cosmic fantasy" are words that define very well what you leave here, because without a doubt they leave me in the "stratosphere" of amazement and wonder. Being there at these moments had to be a great experience. Congratulations in this anniversary!
