Stay Gold

Japanese maple leaves ablaze in the late afternoon sun

Nothing that is beautiful and gold can stay forever.  As the cold wind blows, leaves are whirling and twirling around to the ground and getting muted in colors.  I often wonder why things are so beautiful at its final moment like the last ray of the sun painting the sky or the final blaze of autumn foliage above the ground covered in colors.  They are so gold.

The glinting beauty of fresh verdure is precious.  As the sun flickers through the leaves, they shine gold.  And there comes the time when they shine again with more golden blaze in their later life.

Stay Gold
Composed by Carmin Coppola
Lyrics and sung by Stevie Wonder

Seize upon that moment long ago
One breath away and there you will be
So young and carefree
Again you will see
That place in time...so gold

Steal away into that way back when
You thought that all would last forever
But like the weather
Nothing can ever...and be in time
Stay gold

But can it be
When we can see
So vividly
A memory
And yes you say
So must the day
Too, fade away
And leave a ray of sun
So gold

Ginkgo

Life is but a twinkling of an eye
Yet filled with sorrow and compassion
though not imagined
All things that happen
Will age too old
Though gold

As I’m mesmerized by the beauty of autumn foliage and think about the life of leaves, I think of man’s life by association. Leaves grow from the freshness to the maturity, pass away, become a part of the soil to help new life grow.  So do we and pass down the spiritual patrimony of traditions and wisdom to the next generation.  When remembered, autumn leaves and we both shine gold in the heart of someone who have fond memory of us.

- Some scenes of passing autumn leaves -

Dear Friends,
This post is going to be the last of this year.  Thank you for your encouraging, supportive, kind, or thought-provoking thoughts on my posts throughout the year, which have been the driving force for me to keep blogging.  In a week, I’ll be mostly away from the computer till the New Year, but when I have time I might visit you.
Warmest thoughts and best wishes for a wonderful holiday and a very Happy New Year!

  12. How beautifully you convey the circle of life through words and photos. I, too, have noticed that last bright splash of color in nature. Then leaves, like all life, fall back into a never-ending stream to be reborn prehaps in some other fashion. I wish you and your family all the best and look forward to your return in 2013!

  29. stardust

I hope you are all right, are you? Let it be! Sometimes it is a bit strange to recognize your own thoughts in the other person's words. Autumn makes me feel the way you describe. Its dazzling beauty reminds you of perishable nature of all in our world. God grant you good health, Yoko!

  39. Great to see your beautiful photos of the gold-coloured fall, Yoko! Today we have had blowing snow all day long and we did not went out for one short Sunday stroll - it's just windy, cold and nasty outside. The winter has a lock on whole Germany!

Friday evening we determined our annual one-week conference with colleagues from all over the world, among them three colleagues from our subsidiary at Japan. It was equally challenging, exiting and exhausing and now everybody is glad than the conference is over.
Let's wait and see what next week will bring along. One of my colleagues and I took approx. 2600 photos during the five days of the conference. Within the next days we are going to sort them out. That's the reason why there's not too much time to take and edit private winter photos currently. ;-(
Enjoy your (much more) pleasant December, Yoko!

    Uwe.

By the way: I got Christmas cards from Japan from my Japanese colleague... ;-)

  43. Hi Yoko, Your photos are beautiful as always. I know that the Japanese celebrate the first day of the year in a big way like how the Chinese celebrate the Spring festival around late January and early Febrary. Warm wishes to you and family for a great year ahead.

  44. Hello Yoko, your post is so beautiful, the pictures and the text about the gold and your words about us being like gold in someone's memory. I'm grateful that I found you via Wanda. You have given me so much in your pictures and telling about Japan which is a beautiful and exciting place.
I'm sorry that I in my last comment to you said something wrong. My son knew the film you've mentioned, this is very special, but I said something wrong about the series. It's a rather complicated theme, but he has shown me some of the animés and they are amazing. And these animés are also some special animés. I know too little Yoko!!

I see that you have stopped for this year, and I want to thank you for so many lovely posts in 2012 and wish you a good time of Christmas and a happy and healthy New Year. I hope we shall all have a very good year in 2013 on this wonderful blue planet.

Best wishes to Yoko in the land of the rising sun from Grethe,

I've been a very naughty blogger just recently, what with my internet going horribly wrong and then as soon as it was fixed, the Christmas Variety Show kept me busy and now all the Christmas prep.... however I promise to be better in the future. So Have a Happy Christmas and all the best for 2013!
