“Snowdrops: There is a fragile but hardy celebration... in the very teeth of winter.”
- Louise Wilder -
Though I've been inactive in blogging, I've kept walking in the bracing cold air.
I found a swarm of snowdrops, bundled in the coat in “the strongest cold air front in several years.”

Winter is a good time to take a good look at trees in their bone structure with subdued colors.
Beautifully flowing branches without leaves display abundant seedpods,
which look like gold flowers from a distance.
Urchin-like fruits of Sweetgum, or Linquidambar styraciflua.
Fantastic shades of Silver or Sepia.
Caramel-colored Heuchera on the ground.
One morning in my garden in the frosty air.
The young ones challenged to break their record in the big rope jump.
"When winter comes, can spring be far behind?"
Better times surely come after difficult times.

Your photos are gorgeous, Yoko. My aunt says it's cold in Sendai too. However, it's even colder in Chicago where my daughter is. She calls us on her way home from work every day and tells us about the scary, icy driving conditions. I've never been to Japan in winter, but we did experience spring snow in Shirakawago. That was beautiful!
ReplyDeleteDelightful pictures Yoko !
ReplyDeleteNext month Spring will come...
Have a cozy weekend !
Anna
Hello dear Yoko, I always look forward to your posts and beautiful photos!
ReplyDeleteI also have snowdrops, snowdrops and even violets, and spring comes on March 21, but now the days are a bit longer and there is a bit more sun, which I am very happy about.
In the forest I see little tits, chickadees and other birds, which also seem to miss spring.
All the photos in your post are artistic, sublime and beautiful!
Best regards, all the best!
Oh to return to those skipping rope days! Beautiful images as always, stardust. Frozen drops, icy flowers and seedpods turn into tiny miracles from the perspective of your lens.
ReplyDelete...Yoko, you make the cold look beautiful. Stay warm and well.
ReplyDeleteHello,
ReplyDeleteI love the pretty snowdrops, they are a lovely sight to see on this cold winter day.
Beautiful views of the trees. The egret is lovely. I hope the kiddies did breaking their jump rope record.
Take care, have a happy day and a great week ahead.
You have published some lovely images, Yoko, the heuchera leaves are such a beautiful colour. I really like the silver and sepia toes of the vegetation. I have not seen any snowdrops here yet, the ground is still snow covered. But I'm sure they will be appearing as soon as the snow starts to melt. Happy spring..... when it comes!
ReplyDeleteHi! Amazing photos!
ReplyDeleteLindas fotos. Te mando un beso.
ReplyDeleteMissed your blogging. Such lovely photos. Here in New England no signs of spring yet. More snow on the way for us after hardly any through January.
ReplyDeleteSuch lovely photographs on your post ... and lovely to see the snowdrops.
ReplyDeleteAll the best Jan

DeleteHello, Yoko, welcome back to blogging. You know what I love most in this post? Quote of Shelley at the end! It always sounds nice when a good quote comes in an appropriate context. Walking invisibly with you I marvelled at delicate snowdrops (incredibly early for our region!), remembered seeing recently a bush covered with seedpods (frost said No to taking a picture), enjoyed bracing fresh air. The children rope jumping made me smile and wish to join them :))
ReplyDeleteThank you, Yoko. The photos are mesmerizing.
Let March bring warmth and more blossoms!

Amanda just sent me photos of snowdrops that were blooming at the Botanic Garden in Denver. I'm glad they're blooming for you, too. I love your subdued hues of winter. Here in Breckenridge, my eyes rest on the shapes and textures of sleeping Nature covered by a blanket of snow. Do you remember jumping rope, Yoko? Even at 80, seeing the children in your photos with hair flying and feet off the ground, I feel exhilarated. Soon you'll be posting photos of spring.
ReplyDeleteFebruary is the birthday month for many people in our family and so their special flower is the snowdrop. I like to paint and draw winter trees better than summer ones. I also like the shape of the branches and the more closely you look at these, the more subtle they seem.
ReplyDeleteHello dear Yoko! On the occasion of Women's Day, I sincerely wish you all the best and that this day will last all year long, that you will always be happy and joyful! Hugs!
ReplyDeleteDear Yoko

Hello Yoko: today I am remembering the 2011 Earthquake and Tsunami in Japan when so many people lost their lives and so much property was damaged or swept away. I will always remember that the tsunami occurred on my father's birthday.
